Samir Hanan holds a Master’s degree in Pharmacy and works at the European Medicines Agency as well as at the Dutch Ministry of Health.
He served two consecutive terms as a member of the Zwolle City Council in the Netherlands and is responsible for the Syrian community in the city. Since 2015, he has also founded the Generation of the Qur’an School to teach the Qur’an and Arabic language for free.
His humanitarian work began early in Syria, where he established the Da’wah and Guidance Authority in Aleppo in 2012. He was one of the main founders of the Union of Relief Organizations in Aleppo and its Countryside, and in 2011 he founded and led the Free Medical Union in Aleppo and its Countryside, which later evolved into the Independent Doctors Association (IDA).
