Dr. Nabil Samerji is a psychiatrist with over 15 years of experience in mental health in humanitarian crisis contexts. Since 2015, he has served as the Head of Mental Health at the World Health Organization – Syria, leading national mental health and psychosocial support (MHPSS) programs and policies.
He has contributed to the establishment and development of the Mental Health Technical Working Group (MHPSS TWG) and supervised the integration of mental health services into primary healthcare. In addition, he has trained and built the capacity of thousands of health and community workers on evidence-based interventions.
Dr. Samerji has also participated in developing national strategies, emergency responses—including the recent earthquake—and recovery and preparedness plans, while promoting the integration of mental health with the protection, education, and peacebuilding sectors.
